The primary responsibility of the Custodian will be custodial and maintenance in and around the campus facilities.  Custodians will promote a safe and healthy environment for our community, students, visitors and employees.  It is the role of the custodian to follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules.

This position reports to the Campus Facilities Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the college utilizing appropriate germicides and cleaning solutions.  Duties include, but are not limited to cleaning, dusting, and scrubbing of the building surfaces and furniture, operating industrial and associated equipment and performing minor repairs as needs arise.
  2. Regularly inspects and removes trash and debris from the college grounds.
  3. Initiate, retrieve and respond to service requests via web based work order ticketing system-coordinating resources and implements the set up and take down of furniture and equipment for campus and community events. 
  4. Performs preventative maintenance and regular maintenance in and around facilities (i.e. painting, troubleshoots and repairs minor plumbing and/or electrical problems)
  5. Maintenance of custodial equipment and on-hand supplies
  6. Perform snow removal activities:  snow plowing, snow blowing, snow shoveling, salt spreading, etc.
  7. Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
  8. Lock and secure buildings.
  9. Adhere to safety policies and OHSA requirements.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION

REQUIRED:
  1. Driver's License
  2. Basic computer skills
  3. Cleaning experience
OTHER SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 
  1. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format; read, understand and follow instructions, schedules, and chemical & solvent label.
  2. Ability to access ticketing system and email. 
  3. Ability to obtain or complete forklift-training certifications.
  4. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  5. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet cleaning schedules; perform the physical requirements for the position including climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing for long periods of time; lift and carry boxes, tools, equipment and materials.
  6. The ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment such as carpet extractors, high-speed buffers and scrubbers. 
  7. The ability to operate a forklift, floor jack, snow removal equipment and District-owned vehicle 
  8. High degree of professionalism and customer care.
  9. Promotes efficiency and creates a sense of teamwork.

WISCONSIN RETIREMENT SYSTEM
The employer pays 6.5% and the employee pays 6.5% of the shares. Normal retirement benefits are based on a formula for retirement at age 65.

Part-time employees working 20-39 hours per week will receive pro-rated benefits based on hours worked.
Part-time employees working 19 hours, or less, per week will receive holiday pay based on the amount of hours worked in the prior quarter and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System.
